Quick & Easy Vegan Chocolate Frosting

24

A beautiful and delicious chocolate frosting is the final and most satisfying step for our desserts, but most traditional recipes are often high in sugar, butter, dairy, and eggs. Fortunately, there is a healthy, light alternative that can be prepared in less than 5 minutes: this vegan chocolate frosting made with cocoa and plant-based yogurt is simply royal! Not only is it a better option for your health, but it’s also delicious and easy to customize. Today, I’m sharing my simple technique for preparing a vegan chocolate frosting that will perfectly complement your cakes, cupcakes, marble cakes, and other favorite vegan desserts.

What Ingredients to Use for Healthy Chocolate Frosting?

Let’s leave aside heavy cream, condensed milk, butter, and eggs! There’s no need to add so many calories and cholesterol to our desserts. In fact, you don’t even need chocolate! For this recipe, all you need is pure cocoa powder, maple syrup (or another sweetener), and plant-based yogurt (preferably neutral-flavored, like soy yogurt). If you have a sweet tooth, you can always add a bit of stevia or sugar if needed. And if you want to boost the protein content of your dessert, you can substitute the cocoa powder with chocolate-flavored protein powder.

How Many Calories Are in This Light Vegan Chocolate Frosting?

This frosting contains no more than 90 calories per 100g serving! In contrast, a classic frosting made with butter, lactose, and eggs contains about 391 calories for the same amount. That’s 77% fewer calories! The macronutrient figures also speak for themselves in favor of our simple yet healthy recipe:

Fats3,2g10,6g-70%
Carbs8,9g77,5g-89%
Proteins6,1g1,1g+455%

Drastically there are fewer calories and so much more protein!

How to Make This Vegan Chocolate Frosting

It couldn’t be easier! Just combine the yogurt with the cocoa powder and maple syrup until you achieve a smooth mixture. If you want to thicken your ganache further, simply add more cocoa powder. Be sure to mix the cocoa and yogurt well until everything is nice, smooth, and shiny.

What Vegan Desserts Can You Pair with This Light Frosting?

Personally, I love using this healthy recipe to top my brownies, marble cakes, chocolate cakes, banana breads, muffins, and cupcakes. The great thing about this preparation is that it can also be used as ganache for chocolate eclairs, vegan Yule logs, cream puffs, or even a layer cake. But as always, let your imagination run wild and experiment for yourself!

What Other Flavors and Colors of Frosting Can You Make with This Technique?

Again, the possibilities are endless! Besides the chocolate option, you can achieve various colors and flavors by using powders, fruit concentrates, protein powders, or natural colorants. Lemon, vanilla, strawberry, coffee, speculoos, and orange are just a few ideas for frostings that are both beautiful and delicious.
